Wicked Wyckerly Rebellious Sons Book 1 Rebellious Sons Series edition by Patricia Rice Literature Fiction eBooks Reviews

I liked this one. Usually stories with children in them bore me to tears. The children are usually sickly sweet or beyond annoying. Ms Rice came up with an amusing balance in Penny.

The hero inherited a financial disaster and tried to come up with a plan to set things right. He also has a young daughter who he found in need of him. He needs to marry and marry well, but what society lady will not only accept him and his illegitimate daughter?

The heroine is looking after her family's small bit of land. Her parents have died and her younger siblings have been taken from her. As she is an unmarried woman she is deemed unfit to be in charge of them.

What the h/ H meet there is obvious attraction and irritation. He neglected to tell her he has recently become an earl, who has been making his way in the world by gambling. She offered to help him and his daughter by hiring him to work in her fields. But he knows people in London and can help her get in touch with a distant relative who might be able to help get her siblings returned to her.

The widow of the relative has no use for the hero - or men in general. Her marriage wasn't a happy one. She is determined to marry me off the heroine to a man of substance, and had even waged a bet that she would.

In the meantime someone appears to be trying to kill the hero.

It is a good story and I recommend it.
As a younger son, Fitz has always lived by his wits and survived on his gambling skills. Now, John Fitzhugh Wyckerly, seventh Earl of Danecroft, has not on inherited the title, but also a mountain of debt that could put him in Newgate prison, that is if the creditors don't kill him first. It is obvious that leaving London is necessary and prudent, but does he even have enough money to do so, and where would he go?

Abigail Merriweather is a self-sufficient country spinster who has been running her late fathers lands and estate while raising her very young half-siblings for years. The children are her only family and the center of her world. Now, the executors of her fathers will have removed the children from her care because she is a single miss. She has been trying to get them back, but it seems that kicking a wall would be more effective. Now what?

How these two interesting halves of a whole meet and manage to join forces is the entertaining premise of Wicked Wyckerly by Patricia Rice. This delightful tale includes a few plot twists and turns, along with well developed characters and dialogue that is laced with dry wit and insightful observations about the human condition. It was easy for me to like strong-willed Abby and charming Fitz, as I cheered them toward their HEA.

FYI This is a pretty clean book. There is no vulgar language and only a couple of mildly intimate adult situations. All in all, (for me) this is a solid 4.5 read.
This would have been a 5 star read for me except for the plot about the villain, just didn't do it for me. Other than that I enjoyed the story line and interesting character's.

The children added a lot to the story because it fleshed out the love that our h had and our H was trying to learn. There were humorous parts too that kept the story moving.

We get foreplay outside of marriage rated about 2.5 out of 5 for heat level and then about 4 within marriage - not vulgar or erotic. Since I felt a connection to the h/H the lovemaking was full of passion for me.

You will feel sadness for our H because he is a second son, who was never shown love and this effected him throughout his life. Then he meets our h and their romance builds slowly. We have a few misconceptions but they didn't last the whole book and were resolved quickly.

Both our H/h are strong and caring character's and seemed real to me. I am not going into the plot as many have described it, just what you may discover reading it.

This is book 1 out of 4, no cliffhanger's - yea, but some interesting secondary character's will hopefully get their own stories. (ljb)
I've read a lot of Patricia Rice's books, and am usually a big fan. She is an accomplished writer.

But I found this book very boring and repetitive. She tried to make her hero, heroine & hero's illegitimate child perky and feisty. But that's basically all the book does. Goes on and on about how perky and feisty they all are.

Nothing happens, except ad infinitum descriptions of how feisty the characters are. Sadly lacking in any plot or suspense.

A real snooze.

Hard to believe this was written by Patricia Rice
This is a well written book with excellent character development. I especially loved the heroine, Abigail Merriweather, who is smart, resourceful, and willing to fight against the odds for what she believes in. Her father, a magistrate, has died and she is raising her young half-brothers and half-sisters. Of course, being a single woman, she is judged unfit to rear young children and they are taken away and placed with another family. She is trying everything she knows to get them back home where they belong. Enter John Fitzhugh, who has just inherited a bankrupt Earldom. He also has an illegitimate young daughter who needs his care. Fitz knows he needs to find an heiress to repair the mess that his estate is in and Abigail needs a wealthy man to help her fight to get the children back. What they don't need is the attraction growing between them. The secondary characters are almost as well done as the main characters. I fell in love with Fitz's feisty young daughter and hope that she will get a book of her own.

Although I have read comments about this book having sexually explicit scenes, I think they would be rated PG-13.
Drama, laughter, romance - this story has it all. I absolutely loved it and am looking forward to reading the rest of the series.
